Calling All Women!
Our fall Women’s Bible Study will be starting up on Thursday, September 25, from 6:30 PM to 8 PM at the vestry. For 10 weeks, we will be studying the life of the prophet Elijah. We will be using a study guide called Elijah: Obedience in a Threatening World . The guides are $4.99 (plus shipping and handling) through CBD. I will be placing an order for books on Sunday evening (9/14). If anyone wants me to order for them, call or email me at tpearsons@verizon.net, and we can split the S & H and save some money, or you can get the book on your own if you’d prefer.
Come enjoy a time of fellowship with other women and take advantage of this opportunity to dig deeper into the Bible! Hope to see you on Sept. 25!!
In Christ,
Wendy Pearson
The next Sonship class will begin on October 1st. There is a sign up sheet on the back bulletin board.
This year we are trying something new. In the past there has not been many Hunters or Archery Safety courses offered in our area. I have contacted the state Fish and Wildlife agency and they will use our church as an official site to hold these classes. The price is free, but we need to know how many people are coming ASAP so the instructor can bring the right amount of materials.
The Hunters Safety course will be offered 8/7, 8/8, and 8/9. The times are 6-9 on Thursday and Friday and 9-3 on Saturday. This course in mandatory for all to receive a hunting license in Maine.
The Archery Safety course will be offered 8/21, 8/22, 8/23. The times are 6-9 on Thursday and Friday and 9-1 on Saturday. This course is mandatory to receive an archery license in Maine. It is also rare!
Please tell your friends and neighbors about these courses! This is a chance to get folks who would never think of coming to our church inside the door! Please plan to come yourself! Call the church at 843-0870 to get on the list.
The fun is coming to Grace! Two weeks from now, we will be in the middle of a great outreach to the children and families of our community. Carolyn Sproul is heading up this years VBS which is titled, God’s Big Backyard. We have several pressing needs:
- We need all of us to be praying! Pray for the salvation of many children and teens. Pray for families to be open to talking about the gospel. Pray for the fruit of the Spirit to permeate everything we do.
- We need some help getting last minute supplies. Most of these items many of us have at home. In the back of the church is a clothes-line with our last minute needs. There are nifty pieces of paper (with pictures of shirts and pants on them!) that have our needs on the back. Please pick one up, bring in the materials throughout the week, and help us reach out to many!
- We are also collecting materials for a service project to the local homeless shelter. We are collecting what they need but of don’t often get. This includes pre-made drink mixes like tea, lemonade, Kool-aid, butter, and powdered milk. It also includes some cleaning items like spic and span, bleach, dish detergent, and believe it or not, plastic grocery bags! There is a bin at the back of the church that says VBS service project to place these materials. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!
- I am sure there will be more! Stay posted as we get nearer the date!
People say there is no sure thing in life except death and taxes. Well, there is also the sure thing that if Pastor Greg goes camping, it will rain! I am praying it just does not rain too much!
This weekend is our second annual Grace Camping trip. It is a great way to get to know each other and to enjoy the beauty of Maine. We are camping close by, at Park’s Pond Campground in Clifton. We have reserved the group site. The cost is minimal- $2 a day for all over age 7. Folks can camp for a day or all three days (Thursday-Saturday night). Folks can even come by for an afternoon and camp style supper! There is a great swimming hole, lots of places to ride bikes, golfing across the street, a lady’s spa night on Saturday, a “boys” little car race on Saturday evening, a hay-ride on Friday, and more fun than you can shake a stick at! This is an informal fellowship time for the Grace family. The children love it, and the adults get to hang out around the fire and enjoy good conversation- and if you cook it- good food.
We are located only ten miles out of town on Route 9. I would encourage all to come by for at least an afternoon and evening on Saturday. As always at Grace, the more the merrier! Bring some food to cook over the fire or a dish from home to enjoy in the great outdoors.
Directions: From church, go down Rt. 46 east past the church. It will dead end at Rt. 9 (Tradewinds on the right). Turn right and go 5 miles or so. When you pass the Clifton Baptist church on the left, start slowing down. As you go down the hill, the campground is on the right. You will see the lake. Stop by the log cabin at the entrance to pay your $2 a person and get directions to the group site (up the hill on your right). Hope to see you there.
