Galatians 4:21-31

  1. Memorial Day
    1. We love our freedom!
    2. New England: We are free from the constraints of other people.
    3. Personal application: Are you free?
  2. Background: Abraham and his two sons.
    1. Genesis 16:1-4 In Canaan 10 years and no child. Sarai and her handmaiden. Ishmael is her child.
    2. Genesis 21:1-2 Sarah is too old to have children. God’s promise confirmed in Isaac.
    3. Application: I need “to help” God with this.
  3. Paul’s application and interpretation vss. 24-31
    1. Slave and Free: which one are you? Religion of fear, rules, codes, “honor” or Religion of faith, trust, rest. Isaiah 30:15.
    2. O.T. and N.T.: A true Jerusalem and a physical one. Both claim “God” and offer “something”, but only one remains with God (even though the other looks stronger).
  4. Where are you in relationship with Jesus?
    1. Are you a slave or free? Do you rest in the promises?
