Joy, Slavery, and Love

Galatians 4:8-20

  1. Simplicity in presentation
    1. Statement: I do not feel right. I do not have the same feelings about Jesus, the Church, the pastor. Why?
  2. Context vss 8-20
    1. Paul’s argument continues – you are not a slave, but a child of God! vss 8-9: This is what faith is all about – Freedom and being known.
    2. The Galatians somehow do not care about that. Turning back – that is what slavery is all about, being held captive by weak and miserable principles.
    3. Besetting sin then and now
  3. Where is your joy today?
    1. Joy can be lost, but relationship with God cannot. We lose a lack of conscious delight.
    2. Check yourselves – why is this joy lost? Physical changes? Lack of seeking after faith? Substituting “false gods” for the real one?
  4. The cure:
    1. Remember God’s delight in you! Remember His blessings!

Questions to Ponder:
Do you have joy in the Lord? Do you seek experience or His presence to satisfy?
