Acts 8:26-40

  1. Why is there such a lack of knowledge of the Old Testament by many Christians?
    1. Wesley: “Know the Bible so well that . . . “
  2. Jesus and the Apostles lived in the Old Testament. It was their scriptures.
    1. 2 Timothy 3:15, Acts 17:10-15 The Bereans, Acts 18:24-28 Apollos
    2. Jesus: Matthew 5:17-18
  3. What is the basic structure of the Old Testament? How should we understand it?
    1. Creation/Fall – backdrop for everything!
    2. Promise of redemption – the rest of the Old Testament points toward this.
    3. What is the purpose of the law? Galatians 3:24.
  4. Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch
    1. Philip must have been the most mission-minded man of the earliest church! He talks to everyone!
      1. Thus God uses him!
    2. Reading the Servant Songs in Isaiah 53:7-8.
    3. “Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.”
