Acts 4:1-12, 23-31

  1. Graduation advice: Follow your dreams! Right.
    1. How do we deal with adversity?
    2. God uses it to pursue us. He wants our hearts.
  2. Dealing with Adversity
    1. Entitlement: Somebody else will take care of me.
    2. Self-Reliance: I will take care of me.
      1. Leads to either despair or arrogance.
    3. God-Reliance: I need God to take care of me and I will ask Him to do it! This is not pacifism: we work and God works.
  3. Adversity in the form of persecution – Acts 4:1-12
    1. Almost wish we had some persecution to identify the the true faithful and purify the faith.
    2. Response – Acts 4:23-31
      1. Return to the community of faith.
        1. Even “super” Apostles (Peter & John) get support!
      2. Prayer: God-reliant. Here is the situation…..I/we need Your help.
      3. Expect Results: God will show up with power. Not always what we think, but He will show up.
  4. Romans 5:3-5
