The Widow and Her Mites

Luke 21:1-4

1. Money (coins) in Scripture
1. Judas was paid in coins for betraying Jesus. Matthew 27:3
2. The temple tax. Matthew 17:24-27
3. The parable of the vineyard workers.
4. Rendering unto Caesar what is Caesar’s.
5. Lepton - small copper coin, usually referred to as a mite. It was a Jewish coin.
2. The Temple
1. Thirteen collection areas for different temple functions/ministries.
1. The collection box for teaching the poor children - least used.
2. Widows
1. Very low status in Jewish society.
2. Many became destitute and had to result in pandering.
3. Sacrifice
1. The poor woman gave all she had in the world - more than a mere donation.
2. We need to make sacrifice habitual and not just monetarily.
1. This type of sacrifice should grow as we grow through Christ.
2. 2 Corinthians 9:6-8
4. Will I be one who only donates or one who willingly sacrifices?
